Henry W. Brown, Photographer

Henry W. Brown was born on July 17, 1851 in Canada. Henry was of Irish descent.  Henry left home in 1865, a lad of fourteen. By the age of eighteen, he had moved to Glendale, Montana. Henry was a photographer working primarily in the Beaverhead County areas of Glendale, Hecla, Lion City, and Dillon. Photos taken by Henry include Bannock City, and Butte, Montana. If it had not been for Henry Brown, very little visual history would exist of the Bryant Mining District. We owe so much to this man for preserving the history for future generations. In 1903, the Brown family settled in Custer, Whatcom County, Washington, where Henry continued with his photo profession while maintaining a dairy farm, several mills and logging operations. Henry Brown died on April 19, 1935, and is buried in Enterprise Cemetery, near Ferndale, Washington.
